Antique Diamond and Opal Crescent Necklace, Silver Topped 15ct Gold, Cut Down Collet Setting.

A stunning antique crescent necklace, featuring a central opal cabochon with excellent colour play, surrounded by a halo of lively old cut diamonds in cut down collet settings, set into an open crescent with further diamonds graduating in size, mounted in silver with gold backing as is typical for the Victorian era. The crescent is set between a fine but robust antique 15ct gold rope chain, warm in colour with a beautiful soft patina.

Celestial jewellery and in particular crescent moons became very popular in the Victorian era, as fashions became entranced by new scientific discoveries.
